A Word From Us (The 8th Graders)
I think that the 8th graders (and maybe the 7th graders) should be able to pick their own classes. Like in high school, they get the basics like science, social studies, math and so on. But how cool would it be to have your own roster and have like 10 classes a day. Being able to pick your own classes would really prepare us for high school's life. And also, it would teach us to responsible to get ready for the next class, and being on time. Having about 10 class everyday would be easier, most likely you would be in the same class as your best friend, and/or favorite teacher.

i think that it would be cool lynesha but at the same time all of our classes would be very short
I agree with you Lynesha because if we would have so many classes and we would be able to be with different people that would prepare use for high school. When we go to high school we will be in like 10 classes maybe more then that but if we had to take class like that in our school it would be a lot easier. If we had 10 classes everyday we would have to bring all our books with us and we would probably not be able to go to are locker as much as we can now. If we were to have 10 classes we would probably have to be on time just like you said but we would not be able to be late because we would only have a certain amount of time to learn

I think you are right. We should be able to have more responsibilities as eighth graders. We should be prepared I mean we should have the option of classes like we would have them all but like it wouldn’t be lie we switch as classes we would switch as individuals. And it would be good being in with different people in each class and not seeing the same class every minute of a school day like different people would be better. And it would be cool to have a roster and not see the same people in ever class. So I agree with you.
Lynesha I agree because being able to pick your own classes now in the 8th grade will greatly prepare us for high school. However, I think the 7th graders should do this too. If picking our own classes prepares us for high school then it will definetly prepare the 7th grade because they will have more time with this opprotunity. But my only disagreement is that some or majority of the kids that participate in this may be too lazy to actually get through all of these classes. This will create hassle for the teachers and put them in a difficult place

Thanks for the comment. However, I understand classes would be very short, but you can't go on living with only switching to 3 classes your whole life. I think you need to understand high school is only next year. We are not children anymore, and the time should be now. This school don't even have to have 10 classes, we can just start with only 6 and work our way up.

Thanks for the comment. Students at First Philadelphia have a choice to have lockers. When you switch classes, you could always have your books inside the classrooms and they won't never leave the class. (so you wouldn't have to carry all those books) And most students here always have things that don't belong in their bookbags anyway. Take the old things out, and enter the new stuff that really belong in your bookbag.

Thanks for the comment. Having to pick your classes have positive and negative things. I'm glad your thinking like that, and looking at both sides of the gate.

Thanks for the comment. Great point, but I think that everyone doesn't have to switch at the same time. Like if there were 6 classes (that students have to switch to), since teachers and staff wouldn't want it to be a big hassle thing, only 1,3,and 5 period can switch, and then a couple minutes the 2,4,and 6 periods switch. It's many different ways we can organize this, all we have to do is put a little thought in it.

I think preparing us for hgih school would be good for us, but having 10 classes in one day could get eighth and seventh graders very confused. That is how i feel about your article.

Thanks for the comment. I understand how you feel, most of the people who commented my article felt like that. But, check out the comments I wrote back to the other students, and it will maybe give you some more thought about my article.

I think this is a good idea I used to talk about that allthe time but, more classes is more teachers, which is more money to hand out. And it would kind of be a distraction and a hassel because people would keep changing their rosters to be in classes with friends. And some kids might end in in classes with kids they don;t like and that can cause problems and everything. But its a good idea thought I like the thought.
I both agree and disagree with you Lynesha, though it would be really cool the classes would be too short and we are to close to the end of the school year to start this... We could probably end up in a class with our best friends but that could be a distraction because we would start talking and stop focusing on our work. We need our education which is why they split us up from our friends. There is also a fault in their plan, we find new friends to talk to which just ruins that whole thing. In the end, there is really no way to start this even though it would be cool.
